Watering schedules for snake plant isn’t rocket science as they are one of the easiest houseplants to care for. That said, there are some changes you may need to make from time to time especially based on the time of year. As a general rule of thumb, you only need to water snake plants when the topsoil starts to look or feel dry. Enough water to drench the soil but not enough to create excess water on the surface of the snake plant pot or container.
During the winter season, you will most likely need to reduce the watering frequency. The main reason for this is due to the decline in daylight hours resulting in less transpiration and loss of water from the snake plant leaves. Those who live in cold places where they have to turn on the central heating regularly may, however, want to water more frequently as the indoor air makes the air dry. All in all, you may end up having to only water the snake plant once every two or three weeks during winter.
It’s the opposite situation in the summer when the average temperature is high and the plant gets more exposure to sunlight. During the warm season, you may need to water the snake plant container once every few days or once a week. Again, take care in not overwatering the snake plant as they are prone to plant diseases like root rot with prolonged exposure to excess moisture.
Did you bring in a new baby snake plant or propagate it from an existing plant? Watering frequency should more or less follow the same schedule as adult plants but you can reduce the volume of water since there won’t be as much water absorption taking place via the roots.
Lots of issues will start forming. You may end up with snake plants with drooping leaves or leaves that start to turn a yellow or brown color. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to save snake plants that go through this process so this is why you need to be careful when you water the snake plants.
I currently water my snake plant once a month. The leaves have started to turn a bit yellow recently. Do i need to water it more?
has anyone found any difference whether they water their snake plant in the evening or morning? xoxo
Just a quick tip for everyone but how much light your snake plant gets can make a difference to how often you need to water the plant. If it gets indirect sunlight for just a few hours per day then the plant might get by with being water onced every two or three weeks.
